How MedHub helps the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences at Indiana University maintain their commitment to excellence

“I’m proud of how our programs work together to ensure a positive and all-encompassing experience for the students, and I think MedHub is a big part of that. eValue by MedHub has given us the tools to provide a world-class education experience and continues to be invested in our program’s success.” Emily Scaggs, M.S.Ed., R.T.(R), Assistant Professor and Clinical Coordinator.

Empowering the next generation of healthcare professionals at Indiana University School of Medicine

The Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine’s Radiologic & Imaging Sciences Programs continue to strengthen the education, research and clinical programs it offers while fortifying the alignment between the IU School of Medicine and IU Health/ IU Health Physicians. Medical Imaging Technologists make up the third-largest group of healthcare professionals in the nation and training the next generation of healthcare providers isn’t a task that IU takes lightly. As part of the department’s core areas of focus, the radiologic and imaging sciences teaching faculty are always applying new techniques and technologies to provide students with a world-class education and the knowledge needed to ultimately provide exceptional care upon leaving their programs.

Emily Scaggs M.S.Ed., R.T.(R), Assistant Professor and Clinical Coordinator of RadiographyWhile the cutting-edge technology used within the programs was speeding forward into the future, the program administration tools were lagging behind. Prior to implementing eValue by MedHub in 2013, paper-based processes created additional work for faculty as they filled out student competencies and evaluations. The manual organization and storage of paperwork was not only time-consuming and cumbersome, but also made it difficult to track student performance and maintain accountability.

The choice to digitize and streamline administration processes within the Radiologic and Imaging Sciences Programs is one that continues to benefit faculty and students to this day. Assistant Professor and Clinical Coordinator of the Radiography Program, Emily Scaggs M.S.Ed., R.T.(R), doesn’t take these efficiencies for granted when it comes to managing their program of 80+ radiography students.

Keeping Students on Track

With a limited department of faculty members, paper-based processes made it challenging to monitor how individual students were progressing through the program consistently. As educators, the team at IU feels a need to be able to offer support when students are in need and help them to get back on track as quickly as possible.

Performance Assessments within eValue by MedHub have significantly improved the Imaging Sciences Programs’ data visibility, both at the program and individual level, bringing significant improvements to managing students’ program performance through secure evaluations and reporting. These student tracking capabilities have been an essential tool for faculty. “The various customized reports I can create and pull help me ensure each student is on track to meet the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Graduation requirements,” Scaggs says. “The ability to track each student’s performance throughout their program experience means if a student is falling behind in the program, we can intervene and get them back on track before it interferes with their ability to graduate.”

eValue by MedHub provides faculty and coordinators insight into each student’s performance, but the students themselves can also monitor their progress. By empowering students with streamlined access to coursework, evaluations, and clinical schedules within the platform, they feel a sense of ownership for their success within the program.

Continuing Excellence

Overall, the eValue by MedHub solution helps the Radiologic and Imaging Sciences Programs at Indiana University School of Medicine maintain their commitment to excellence. By streamlining the typical time-consuming work of organizing student and faculty information, the department can shift focus to providing the best education to the next generation of Radiologic Technologists.
